This summer, two special distributions of The Shoe That Grows happened, countries apart, both removing significant barriers to education for kids. Thanks to support from our monthly giving community, The Sole, we are able to fulfill requests for shoes from schools and smaller organizations that have immediate need but aren’t part of our regular network of Kenyan partners.

Hope Endeavors, Malawi

Hope Endeavors is a nonprofit whose purpose is to bring hope to orphaned and vulnerable children suffering in extreme poverty. Their work in Malawi includes HOPE Village Children’s Home and Kids Clubs in several communities. 

After a successful first distribution in 2025 at HOPE Village, Hope Endeavors requested 800 more pairs of The Shoe That Grows to distribute through their Kids Clubs in remote villages where resources are especially scarce and conditions and terrain are harsh.  

Co-founder Darcy McLane said, “We were able to host four shoe distributions to our Kids Clubs in the villages of Zangwangwa, Kamuzen, Ziyaya and Mphate and delivered all 800 shoes!” 

Matthew Banda of Hope Endeavors Malawi described the results of The Shoe That Grows: “Our shoe distribution initiative has had a significant impact by encouraging many kids to join kids clubs and enabling those who could not attend school because they had no shoes to now go to school. The shoes have been particularly beneficial for children from vulnerable families, providing them with much-needed footwear.” 

Bonne Esperance Community Network CBO, Kenya 

Bonne Esperance Community Network is committed to improving lives through care, support, education and community development. This community-based organization in Kenya requested 40 pairs of The Shoe That Grows to distribute to kids through their Bonne Esperance Community Centre near Kisumu. 

Bonita Omondi, a community guardian with Bonne Esperance, said of the distribution, “We have been looking forward to this day with great excitement. These shoes represent more than footwear—they bring hope, protection, and a brighter future for the children under our care.”

Esther Aluda, a parent of a child who received a pair, said, “I sincerely thank Bonne Esperance Community Network CBO and Because International for remembering families like ours. These shoes will protect our children, give them confidence, and help them attend school with dignity.”

Thanks to members of The Sole, our monthly giving community, these recent distributions reaching kids from different countries but with similar needs were possible.
