Furaha Community Foundation is a Kenyan nonprofit based in Huruma-Mathare, Nairobi. Founded in 2005, they have grown from a home-based tutoring program into a community institution. Furaha's name means joy in Swahili. Together, we've distributed over 13,000 pairs of The Shoe That Grows.
About Furaha Community Foundation
Based in Huruma-Mathare, Nairobi, Furaha works with schools and learners in both Nairobi County and Machakos County. To date, pairs of The Shoe distributed through our partnership have gone to schools in Mathare.
Furaha is working through UASA to distribute The Shoe at APBET (Alternative Provision of Basic Education and Training) schools. These community-based schools serve informal settlements where many learners lack access to formal schooling and walk to school barefoot.
With a mission to "nurture dreams and hope," Furaha works with partners to help keep kids in school, healthy and safe. Their areas of support include education, healthcare, business coaching, social work, and community-based rehabilitation.
