Over 1.5 billion people suffer from soil transmitted diseases worldwide.
Without shoes, children are especially vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases and parasites that can cause illness and even death.
Children who get sick miss school, can’t help their families, and suffer needlessly. And since children’s feet grow so quickly, they often outgrow donated shoes within a year, leaving them once again exposed to illness and disease.
Girl Scouts and The Shoe That Grows can change that.
designed for kids living in poverty, one pair costs $20 and will expand five sizes and last for years.
Here’s how you can be involved.
1. Sign up to participate
Sign up for the philanthropic reward program below and receive resources including a sample pair of The Shoe That Grows and digital resource kit.
2. GIrl Scouts Donate Shoes
Your Girl Scouts can choose to donate shoes in place of a reward item based on the structure your council determines. At the end, you’ll submit a single donation to Because International.
3. Shoes are delivered
After we receive your donation, we’ll work with our in-country employee to identify a school or orphanage in Kenya that would benefit from receiving the shoes and the shoes will be delivered.
4. Girl Scouts see the impact
After the shoes are delivered, we’ll be able to share details back with you and your Girl Scouts including any photos, testimonials, or messages of thanks from the children who received the shoes.
